About the school: Augusta Evans is a stand-alone public day school that serves students with moderate to severe disabilities. Our student population includes students with a diversity of disabilities who are ages 5-21.
We are fortunate enough to have over 25 certified special-education teachers in one school setting. Working at a school setting such as Evans affords teachers with the opportunity to collaborate freely with other special-education teachers who have similar day-to-day experiences.
Here are just some of the things that makes Augusta Evans a special place to teach.
Evans participates in the Alabama Teacher Mentor Program, which provides training on a one-on-one basis for new teachers on Individualized Educational Plan creation.
We have weekly employee recognition incentives.
Time is allotted during the day for IEP development.
Dance, Art, and Music classes are offered for students.
Professional development opportunities are provided in the areas of behavior management, curriculum, and instruction and in the care and management of students with severe medical needs.
Our students develop career skills through our greenhouse program, Project SEARCH, and a unique program where they sort and sell Mardi Gras beads.
