About the school: A National Blue Ribbon School, Eichold-Mertz is Mobile County's only elementary magnet school of math, science and technology. Our studnets have the district's highest proficiency on the ACAP in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. 

Eichold- Mertz has a diverse student population of students from six different continents. We were ranked #3 for the Best Elementary School in Alabama by U.S. News and World Report, and a Lagniappe Best Public School winner.

Every child is a book, and it is our job to read it from cover to cover! We believe that there are five essential elements that are conducive to learning: 

1. The teacher's role is to act as a guide and/or facilitator to deliver rigorous grade level content. 

2. Students must have continuous access to hands-on activities. 

3. Students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning.

4. Students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe non-threatening environment. 

5. Technology must be incorporated into their school day daily.

We believe in professional collaboration and in providing development opportunities for our staff. Teamwork is imperative to achieve maximum potential. 

We have high expectations for everyone in the building including students, custodians, CNP, office staff, teachers and administrators.
