About us: Barton Academy was Alabama's FIRST public school, built in 1836. It reopened as Mobile's newest magnet school in 2021 after undergoing a complete, state-of-the-art interior renovation thanks to the tremendous support of the Barton Academy Foundation, a private non-profit organization who made it their mission to restore Barton Academy. Since our grand reopening, our students and staff have made a name for themselves, winning awards in art, music, sports, STEM, and academics. We are home to TWO Alabama secondary teachers of the year and the 2023 MCPSS Middle School Teacher of the Year. Barton Academy is a close-knit school community with wonderful parental support, an award-winning faculty, and outstanding students. Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies serves as a model for 21st century learning with a focus on global studies and entrepreneurship, taught through a project-based curricular approach.
